Specificity: Detects human X-linked ectodermal dysplasia receptor (XEDAR), a 33kD type III transmembrane protein of the TNFR (tumor necrosis factor receptor) superfamily. XEDAR is a homologue of the ectodermal dysplasia receptor (EDAR), and binds to an isoform of ectodysplasin termed EDA-A2. Binding of ectodysplasin to XEDAR results in the induction of apoptosis, and is thought to be involved ectodermal organ development. New evidence suggests XEDAR may also be involved in skeletal muscle development. Two predominant isoforms of XEDAR exist; XEDAR-s and XEDAR-L, produced by alternative splicing
